Young Scholars Charter School

As a charter school established under Act 22 of the Pennsylvania legislature, Young Scholars is an independently operated public school. As such, we are able to make innovative decisions regarding our curriculum and school culture. However, because we are only partially funded by the government on a per-pupil basis, and because we cannot charge tuition and must adhere to federal and state laws in the education of our students, we rely heavily on private donations and grants to augment the government funds. Without these, we cannot provide the high quality of student programming and academic atmosphere that sets Young Scholars apart from other middle schools.

Overview

An investment in a Young Scholars student's education is an investment in the future.

The challenges our students face are numerous:

•  70% of our students live at or below the poverty level

•  Many come from single-parent households

•  Many enter Young Scholars well below their grade level in many subjects

Despite these obstacles, each of these middle-schoolers holds a dream for the future. For some it's to become a psychologist, lawyer, or chef; for others it's to provide a better life for their families. All of these students understand that the education they receive here is the first step towards their goals.

Your gift will make a difference in the life of a student.
