Young Scholars Charter School invites qualified, dynamic, committed, data-driven, strategic, results-oriented teachers to apply for reading, language arts, math, and science faculty positions. Essential Functions of a Young Scholars Teacher
- Develop effective lesson plans, homework assignments and assessments that align with state standards and the instructional standards of Young Scholars Charter School.
- Effectively and consistently enforce our school-wide classroom management procedures.
- Collaborate with other faculty to discuss student work, share best practices, and ensure student mastery of standards.
- Maintain close relationships with families, including phone calls and conferences, and tutor those students who need extra support.
- Participate in on-going professional development
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in subject matter that one wishes to teach or at least two years related teaching experience
- Must have or be working towards a Pennsylvania Teacher Certification, dual certifications preferred
- Must be able to work collaboratively in a non-traditional, inner-city environment
- Outstanding instructional skills, including the ability to motivate and challenge students and maintain an orderly classroom environment
- Demonstrated expertise in subject area
- A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement
- A belief that all students should be held to high academic standards
- The ability to communicate effectively with parents
- Demonstrated professionalism and responsibility, and a strong work ethic
- A positive, high-energy attitude and a drive for personal excellence
- The ability to problem-solve and a sense of humor are required

Salary & Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience and certification. Fully paid medical, dental and life insurance; tuition reimbursement program; enrollment in Pennsylvania State Employee Retirement System (PSERS) and 403b options.

About Us
Located in North Philadelphia and drawing students from across the city, Young Scholars prepares over two hundred sixth, seventh and eighth graders each year to attend selective college preparatory high schools in the region. Many enter Young Scholars performing well below grade level in reading and mathematics and yet by the time they graduate from eighth grade they are prepared for success at some of the region’s most selective high schools. Our students excel because the rigorous academic environment challenges them to do their best and because their teachers support and encourage them throughout their time at Young Scholars.
